The Chase of Grace : Jonah

October 6, 2017 by Tim

The story of Jonah in the Bible is famous, but it’s meaning is less well understood. In the book of Jonah the great “chase” is not God’s pursuit of Jonah, but His pursuit of grace – both for Jonah and the people Jonah was sent to.

We will be looking at the book of Jonah and what it teaches us during our Bible Talks at Kallangur in October and November. The talks will include:

  • Running from God (Jonah 1:1-7)
  • The plan of grace (Jonah 1:8-16)
  • Salvation is of the Lord (Jonah 1:17-2:10)
  • God’s gracious warning (Jonah 3)
  • God of compassion (Jonah 4)
  • Jonah and Jesus (Jonah 1, Matt 12:38-42)

Jesus – better than religion

August 20, 2017 by Tim

Most people in the world realise that we are more than just a collection of atoms; that we are spiritual beings. Many try to acknowledge this through ‘religion’ – angels, men in robes, rituals and good deeds done to earn God’s acceptance. The writer to the Hebrews though tells us that Jesus is better than religion. He is all that we need.

In this series of Kallangur Bible Talks we will consider:

  • Jesus – the message of God
  • Jesus – better than angels
  • Jesus – everything we were meant to be
  • Jesus – the Man for us
  • Jesus – the real Priest
  • Trusting God like Abraham: waiting for the heavenly city
  • Trusting God like Abraham: looking to one who raises the dead
  • Trusting God like Moses: Treasuring Jesus above everything
  • Trusting God like Jesus

Sermons for the series will be updated each week below.

Jesus brings…

February 12, 2017 by Tim

“What difference does Jesus make?” Many people today are interested not just in the facts of the different faiths, but in answering the question, “Does it work?” We believe that knowing Christ gives us hope both for the future and the present. We recognise that this life is still filled with trouble, but we would still rather have Christ through all the troubles of life, than not have him. And so we answer the question “What difference does Jesus make?” with confidence. Jesus brings:

  • Purpose (Luke 12:13-34)
  • Joy (Luke 2:1-20)
  • Hope (Luke 4:16-21)
  • Compassion
  • Forgiveness (Luke 5:17-26)
  • Power to change (Ephesians 2:1-10)
  • Real community (Mark 10:17-30)
  • Satisfaction (John 4:1-29)
  • Justice (Romans 2:12-16), and
  • Life after death (John 11:17-27).

We will explore each of these topics in the series. Talks will be available below shortly after each Sunday.

Parables!

November 13, 2016 by Tim

Parables

Our final Kallangur series for 2016 and into 2017 is “Parables”, which will explore over ten talks selected parables of Jesus. The parables are some of the most readily remembered teachings of Jesus, and make up a significant part of the recorded ministry of Jesus. Our studies through the important lessons of the parables will therefore include:

  1. Introduction to the Parables (Matthew 13:10-17)
  2. Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 13:24-43)
  3. Prayer (Luke 18:9-14)
  4. Response to the Word (Matthew 13:1-24)
  5. Lost & Found (Luke 15:1-7)
  6. Building real Treasure (Luke 16:1-13)
  7. Forgiveness (Matthew 18:21-35)
  8. Being prepared for End Times (Luke 14:16-24)
  9. Meeting the End Times
  10. Who is our neighbour?

Sermons for the series will be available below shortly after each talk.

Welcome!

Welcome. If you’re looking for a church home, would like to know more about Christianity, or are temporarily in the area, we invite you to come and visit.

At our church we aim to bea warm community of people that worship and serve God, and make Him known through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our worship is simple and uncluttered, including prayer, a mix of old and new songs, usually a kids talk and always a talk explaining the Bible. We aim for clear, practical Bible teaching which leads us to God, through Christ. We are Reformed and Evangelical.

We cherish our diversity as people, and our unity in Christ, meeting together as a whole group, young and old. We seek to look out for each other and support each other in all the problems that we face in life.

We are not perfect; we are all sinners. But because of Jesus, we are forgiven!
