The Parables

January 23, 2021 by Tim

Throughout His ministry Jesus taught over twenty parables. These parables are often described as ‘earthly stories with a heavenly meaning’ because for those who want to hear they reveal great riches about the kingdom of God. In Matthew 13:10-17, we learn why Jesus spoke in parables:

And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”

He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:

‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,
And seeing you will see and not perceive;
For the hearts of this people have grown dull.
Their ears are hard of hearing,
And their eyes they have closed,
Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I should heal them.’

But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.

Jesus spoke in parables so that His disciples would understand His teachings and so that unbelievers would be without comprehension. This is true today – those interested in the truth of Jesus’ message are given understanding by God. So, over the summer period we will study some of the parables so that we can learn more about the truth that Jesus is teaching us.

Parables!

November 13, 2016 by Tim

Parables

Our final Kallangur series for 2016 and into 2017 is “Parables”, which will explore over ten talks selected parables of Jesus. The parables are some of the most readily remembered teachings of Jesus, and make up a significant part of the recorded ministry of Jesus. Our studies through the important lessons of the parables will therefore include:

  1. Introduction to the Parables (Matthew 13:10-17)
  2. Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 13:24-43)
  3. Prayer (Luke 18:9-14)
  4. Response to the Word (Matthew 13:1-24)
  5. Lost & Found (Luke 15:1-7)
  6. Building real Treasure (Luke 16:1-13)
  7. Forgiveness (Matthew 18:21-35)
  8. Being prepared for End Times (Luke 14:16-24)
  9. Meeting the End Times
  10. Who is our neighbour?

Sermons for the series will be available below shortly after each talk.

Parables of Jesus

June 26, 2016 by Tim

During His earthly ministry Jesus taught using over forty parables. These are therefore a significant part of the teachings recorded in the gospels and it is helpful for us to study them in detail.

As called upon to preach, Tim Dean, one of our Deacons, will be helping us to study the parables of Jesus in a series following a basically chronological order that the parables were taught. This is an occasional series and sermons will be added below as preached.

Additional information is also being compiled to help the congregation in the study of parables. This is available here.

Welcome!

Welcome. If you’re looking for a church home, would like to know more about Christianity, or are temporarily in the area, we invite you to come and visit.

At our church we aim to bea warm community of people that worship and serve God, and make Him known through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our worship is simple and uncluttered, including prayer, a mix of old and new songs, usually a kids talk and always a talk explaining the Bible. We aim for clear, practical Bible teaching which leads us to God, through Christ. We are Reformed and Evangelical.

We cherish our diversity as people, and our unity in Christ, meeting together as a whole group, young and old. We seek to look out for each other and support each other in all the problems that we face in life.

We are not perfect; we are all sinners. But because of Jesus, we are forgiven!
