What we believe

We believe:

  • The Bible consisting of the Old and New Testaments is the inerrant word of God and as such, is the final authority for faith and life.
  • There is one God who exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He created and sustains all things according to His excellent purposes.
  • All people have been created in the image of God, for the express purpose of worshipping and enjoying Him.
  • Although humanity was created good, all have rebelled and broken His law (sinned). All now have a sinful nature, tarnishing the image of God in them. We all deserve God’s just punishment because of our sin and are totally unable to save ourselves.
  • In His mercy, God the Father sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to save sinners.  Jesus is fully God and yet fully man.  Jesus was the anointed saviour – the Christ.  He lived a perfect sinless life, died on the cross and rose again bodily after three days.
  • God freely offers salvation to all people. We cannot be saved by what we have done, but only by what Jesus Christ has done.  Jesus died in the place of sinners, taking their punishment on Himself.  To be saved, we must turn from our sin and trust in Christ alone to save us.  When we trust in Christ our sin is counted to Jesus in His death and His perfect goodness is counted to us.
  • People trust in Christ only because the Holy Spirit changes them, giving them spiritual life. The Holy Spirit lives within Christians, giving them power to fight their sin, and to grow in likeness to Christ in thoughts, words and actions.
  • Christians are members of a body with Jesus Christ as the Head. God’s people meet together in order to worship, grow and serve. Members of the church must both believe the gospel, and live a life which is consistent with the gospel. The church is God’s agent, declaring the good news of salvation to the world.
  • On the Last Day Jesus Christ will return to judge the living and the dead. All will be raised bodily from the dead. The universe will be recreated. All will be destined either heaven or hell for eternity.

We attest our belief in these things as part of our Membership vows in joining the Church.

Further Information

Westminster Confession of Faith

For a much more detailed account of what we believe the Bible teaches please read – The Westminster Confession of Faith (with our minor amendments by PRC). Note that all of our leaders (elders and deacons) subscribe to this Confession entirely.  We do not have a “declaratory act”.  Where a leader comes to believe that part of the Confession is unbiblical, the matter is taken to Presbytery, and if, on re-examining God’s Word the Confession is found to be in error, it is amended.

Welcome!

Welcome. If you’re looking for a church home, would like to know more about Christianity, or are temporarily in the area, we invite you to come and visit.

At our church we aim to be a warm community of people that worship and serve God, and make Him known through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our worship is simple and uncluttered, including prayer, a mix of old and new songs, usually a kids talk and always a talk explaining the Bible. We aim for clear, practical Bible teaching which leads us to God, through Christ. We are Reformed and Evangelical.

We cherish our diversity as people, and our unity in Christ, meeting together as a whole group, young and old. We seek to look out for each other and support each other in all the problems that we face in life.

We are not perfect; we are all sinners. But because of Jesus, we are forgiven!
